707,037. Fuel-injection pumps. AKTIESELSKABET BURMEISTER & WAINS MASKIN-OG SKIBSBYGGERI. May 30, 1952, No. 13862/52. Class 102 (1). In a fuel-injection pump, the pump piston 1 is actuated by a piston 4 loaded by a spring 18 and subjected to the .pressure in an engine cylinder. The pumping chamber of the cylinder 2 is connected to suction and. delivery passages 16, 17 respectively, controlled by grooves 15, 14, respectively in a slide valve 8 actuated by a cam 10 driven by the engine. At the end of the suction stroke, the passage 16 is closed by the valve 8 and as the pressure in the engine cylinder rises, the piston 1 is forced downwards until a relief port 19 is closed by the edge of a channel in the piston 1. Injection commences when the delivery, passage 17 is opened by the valve 8 and continues until a passage 23 connected to the delivery passage 17 is connected to the relief passage 25 by an oblique edge 22 on the piston 1. Immediately afterwards, the oblique edge 26 on the piston 1 closes the delivery passage 17 and the piston 1 is brought to rest by the fuel trapped in the cylinder 2.
