Abstract

706,984. Aircraft wings and stabilising surfaces. BOULTON PAUL AIRCRAFT, Ltd. Jan. 30, 1952 [Feb. 2, 1951], No. 2704/51. Class 4 In an aircraft wing or the like, or part thereof, adapted-to be pivotally attached to the aircraft to permit variation of the angle of sweep, the wing or the like is of such a shape near the axis of rotation as to form a solid or solids of revolution about said axis. The wing or stabilizing surface 1 is pivoted at 4 to the fuselage 5, the root portions 8 and 9 being formed as solids of revolution 2 and 3 about the point 4, the respective sections of the solids being determined by the sectional profiles 6, 7 of the wing. at the lines of intersection with the fuselage when the wing is respectively in its fully forward swept and fully rearward swept positions. By this means a uniform clearance and simplified sealing between the root portions of the wing and the openings in the fuselage is ensured.
