706,218. Damp-proof courses. DYER, L. K. Aug. 22, 1952 [Sept. 3, 1951], No. 20742/51. Class 20(4) A combined arch support and damp resistor comprises a metal plate which is shaped in cross section to provide an outwardly directed horizontal support 1 for a flat arch or the like 2 for the outside skin of a cavity wall 6, and which also comprises a damp resistor portion 4 which extends upwardly across the cavity 5 to abut and terminate against the face of the lintel or support 7 carrying the inner skin of the wall. The forward edge of support 1 is formed as a lip 3 and the upper edge of portion 4 may terminate in an upwardly directed vertical portion 8 or alternatively in a downwardly directed portion 8a. In a further modification which is formed as a pressing one or more angle-section stiffener plates is or are welded to the inner face of the fitting to extend partly or wholly along the unit. In another form, the unit is of L section, the damp resistor portion being formed by a portion of one limb and having a sloping upper face, weep holes being left in the mortar joints for the escape of moisture. According to the Provisional Specification the fitting may be constructed as in Specification 694,214, the upper horizontal portion being omitted.
