Abstract

706,217. Bins for waste matter. TAYLOR, R. March 21, 1952 (Aug. 28, 1951], No. 20236/51. Class 26 A bin for waste matter, having a normally closed lid and a receptacle for a deodorizing substance, is provided with visible means to indicate a predetermined loss of weight of the deodorizing substance. As shown, the bin comprises an outer casing 21 with a pivoted lid 27, 28 operated by a pedal 39, an inner container 10 with a handle 19, and a perforated receptacle 13 for the deodorizing substance 34. The lid portions 27, 28 overly and underly, respectively, the rim 25 of the outer casing 21, and are joined by a stepped portion 29 to which the lid-pivot pin 30 is secured. The receptacle 13 is hinged at 35 to the smaller lid portion 27 and is held in position by a resilient clip 36. Loss of weight of the deodorizing substance 34 therefore allows the lid to tilt into the dotted line position, thereby providing a visible indication. Depression of pedal 39 raises a rod 41 carrying a roller 44 which freely engages the lid portion 27 for normal use of the bin. The inner container 10 and outer casing 21 are retained in assembled relation by means of a pivotally mounted U-shaped handle 46 with bolt elements 47 extending through registering holes 48, 49. As a modification, the visible indication may be furnished by observing the position of the receptacle 13 through a window in the outer casing 21.
