Abstract

1523221 Refuse bins AIRFIX PLASTICS Ltd 31 March 1976 [6 March 1976] 09090/76 Heading A4A [Also in Division E2 ] A bin is provided with a lid 14 arranged to open and close an aperture affording access to the bin interior, the lid being hinged for movement between the open and closed positions, there being means 34 for moving the lid and holding it in the closed position, a catch 34, 40 for holding the lid in the open position Fig. 1, (not shown), and means 48 for disengaging the catch to allow the lid to reclose. As shown, the lid 14 closes an aperture in the inclined surface of a removable top 12 which covers the bin container 10. The lid is pivoted at 26 to the top 12 and has a lever arm 30 carrying a piece of mild steel 34 whose weight biases the lid to the closed position. A magnet 40 holds the steel 34 to retain the lid open and the button 48 when pressed releases the steel from the magnet. In a further embodiment Fig. 4, (not shown) a projection (54) provides the catch to hold the lid open or, alternatively, it is stated that an area of adhesive may constitute the catch. It is also stated that a spring may be arranged so that it closes the lid.
