Abstract
705,984. Valves. WILKERSON CORPORATION. May 1, 1952 [May 7, 1951], No. 10990/52. Class 135 A drain valve for a compressed air tank and adapted to be opened intermittently whereby sludge is blown out by tank pressure, comprises a body 7 attached to the tank 9 and having axially aligned closure members 37, 29 urged to their seats by springs 39, 32 respectively, and controlling a drain passage 35, 28. Air under pressure is intermittently admitted via an inlet 40 to a chamber 13 to raise a diaphragm 11 against a spring 20 thereby compressing air in a chamber 14 to raise a diaphragm 12 and hence the closure member 29 which, with lost motion, raises member 37. Air in the chamber 14 leaks to atmosphere through an adjustable bleed valve 25 whereby the members 28, 27 will regain their seats after an interval of time determined by the setting of valve 25. When the pressure is removed from chamber 13 the spring 20 lowers diaphragm 11 and air is drawn into chamber 14 through valve 25 and also through check valve 24.
