Abstract
705,803. Shoe bottom presses. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd. June 3, 1952 [June 5, 1951], No. 13894/52. Class 17(1) Rapid adjustment of the toe and heel abutments 20, 22 of a shoe bottom pressing machine is provided, to deal with various sizes and styles of footwear, by providing each with a toothed rack 52 mounted for vertical adjustment in a support 26 or 28 also provided with teeth which interengage those on the racks 52 and which are maintained in locking engagement by a vertically movable wedging cam plate 54 upward movement of which by knobs 68 permits lateral separation of the teeth. Downward movement of the abutments 52 and their supports 20, 22 is limited by pins 72, each retractable against a spring from engagement in a slot 70 in the face of each rack 52. The .machine is somewhat similar in construction to that described in Specification 216,937, [Class 17(i)], and the supports 26, 28 are simultaneously adjustable along a guide plate 30 on a cross-head 24 by turning a centrally pivoted lever 34 connected at its ends to links 38, 40 connected by screws to one of a series of pairs of tapped holes 42 (not shown) in the upper ends of the supports 26, 28. Unintentional movement of the supports 26, 28 is prevented by screws 48 mounted in blocks 44 (not shown) carried by the supports and which are pressed by springs against the edges of the guide plate 30.
