Abstract

705,404. Inhalers. BICKFORD & SONS, Ltd., A. M. April 24, 1951 [May 19, 1950; Sept. 1 1950], No. 9542/51. Class 81(2) In an inhaler for medicinal substances the inlet or inlets through which air is admitted is/are of a total cross-sectional area which is small in relation to that of the outlet and is/are inclined in a direction away from the outlet such that the air disturbs the inhalent by impinging thereon when suction is applied to the outlet. As shown, the inhaler, Fig. 2, comprises three parts, a body 1 provided with an air inlet 11 and outlet 5, a plug 3 removable for refilling the body when necessary and a mushroom shaped cap 6 having an depending plug 10 and skirt which respectively seal the outlet 5 and the inlet 11 when the cap is in its closed position on the bcdy. A spring lock cf the cap 6 to the body 1 is effected by providing the former with a depression 9 which engages a ridge 8 on the latter. In a modification an air inlet which is directed towards the outlet 5 is provided in addition to the inlet 11. In a further embodiment an inhaler similar to that shown in Fig. 2, is provided with a rotatable sleeve having an opening: which may register fully or partially with the opening 11 in order to adjust the air flow to the latter. The air openings in the body may be duplicated if desired and' may be arranged tangentially.
