Abstract

1,259,232. Respiratory mask. O. H. DRAGER [trading as DRAGERWERK, HEINR & BERNH DRAGER]. 20 March, 1970 [20 March, 1969], No. 13711/70. Addition to 1,191,793. Heading A5T. [Also in Division F2] In a modification of a respiratory mask, disclosed in parent Specification (present Fig. 1, not shown) the exhalation valve 8 comprises a housing 26 in communication with the space (5), the housing having a central, annular valve seat 27 encircling a blind cavity 28, a diaphragm 29 held at its periphery fast to the housing 26 by means of cover member 32 and, in its closed position, cooperating with the seat 27 and closing the cavity 28. In use, exhaled air flows through the passage 31 into the annular chamber 30, the excess pressure causing the diaphragm to be raised and air to flow to the atmosphere via the bore 28, and holes 33 and 34. The opening resistance of this valve 8 is such that part of the exhaled air is discharged through the valve (25) and part through the valve 8. A valve of the construction shown may be placed, in addition in each of the openings (7) or in the opening (20) if this is present instead of the openings (7).
