Abstract
1,238,650. Resuscitation apparatus. P. H. VENN and A. MARTIN. 25 March, 1970 [25 March, 1969], No. 15620/69. Heading A5T. A manually operated apparatus for administering air or oxygenated air to a patient comprises a bag 10 having a non-rebreathing valve (described fully in Specification 1,238,649) and a non-return oxygen inlet valve through which oxygen from a cylinder may be supplied. When the bag is squeezed the increased pressure closes the non-return ball or needle valve, carrier 26 moves forward closing the inlet and outlet ports 27 and 25 and valve member 22 is displaced so opening the apertures 24. Air or oxygenated air may pass through the valve into the patient's lungs by way of a face mask (not shown). When the pressure on the bag is relaxed, the patient's breath replaces member 22, slides back carrier 26 and passes out through the ports 25. As the bag inflates air may be drawn in through ports 27 and oxygen or air through the now open non-return valve.
