705,329. Collapsible tubes; stoppers. MACLEANS, Ltd. Nov. 4, 1952 [Nov. 9 1951], No. 26333/51. Classes 66 and 125 (3) [Also in Group V] A collapsible tube has a metal nozzle 1 of tubular form which is threaded, ribbed, indented, or otherwise provided with an external key surface to which is attached a surrrounding collar 10 of inert thermoplastic material covering the end surface of the nozzle and filling the key indentations. Various forms of key indentations are described with respcet to Figs. 2-5 (not shown) and the surrounding collar may either be shaped in a forming die by the application of heat and pressure on a cylindrical blank placed over the nozzle or else moulded by the injection of a predetermined amount of plastic material into a mould previously located round the nozzle. The exterior of the collar may be provided with a two or three start fast pitch thread 15 which co-operates with a similar thread inside a quickly removable cap 17 made of a non-metallic material appreciably harder and more rigid than the collar so that the collar and cap effectively seal the tube. To assist sealing a projection 22 may be provided inside the cap. A Specification of the properties required in a suitable collar material is given in the Specification and polythene is stated to be one such suitable material.
