Abstract

705,178. Resilient mountings. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Feb. 12, 1952 [March 16, 1951], No. 6429/51. Class 108(3) [Also in Group XXXV] A device for securing the relative location of two radially-spaced coaxial members 2, 3 comprises an intermediate resilient packing member 1 of closed configuration, having alternate portions nearer to and further from the axis of the members 2, 3, the shape of the portions being uniform along the whole axial length of the member, at least one of the members being recessed to accommodate the packing member 1 or part of it. The resilient packing member 1, Figs. 2 and 3, may be formed by uniting the ends of phosphor-bronze strip which has spaced slots 4. In the construction shown, the member 1 is disposed in an annular space formed by opposed channels 7, 8, is an outer housing 2 and the stator 3 of an electric motor. Instead of the recess 7 peripherally-spaced conical projections on the member 1 may engage an annular groove in the housing 2, Fig. 5 (not shown). The member 1 may, if it is of the same width as the stator 3, be locaeed either by an inwardly-projecting flange or by peripherally-spaced inwardly-projecting lugs, Fig. 6 (not shown). Instead of the member 1 being slotted to cause it to assume a polygonal configuration, it may be suitably preformed. It may be of corrugated instead of polygonal configuration. Specification 647,187, [Group XXII], is referred to.
