Class 38(5) To compensate or overcompensate for the change in action of a voltage regulator or battery charging switch or other electromagnetic switch due to the heating of the winding 1 by the current or change in atmospheric temperature a counter pole 6 of soft iron overlaps the armature 4 on the side remote from the winding 1 and is connected to the pole plate 3, 3<SP>1</SP> through a part 5 made of an: alloy, the permeability of which varies with temperature e.g. iron-nickel. The Figure shows a combined voltage regulator and charging switch with respective armatures 4, 11 and a common winding 1. The counter pole 6 has an extension 6<SP>1</SP> entering a narrow slot in the armature 4 to compensate for the change in size of the gap between the parts 6, 4 due to the range of movement of the armature and make the action of the counter pole more uniform.
