[Also in Group IX] A reel of the type in which an open centre coil of stock is supported on radially adjustable arms and confined thereon by axially adjustable fingers has said fingers pivoted on said arms such that they can be swung from a radial coil confining position into an axially extending position in which they are substantially in line with said arms. As shown the reel.comprises a main spindle 15 on which is rotatably mounted a hub 16 carrying radial spokes 17 on which laterally extending coil supporting arms 18 are radially adjustable. The arms 18 are of channel cross section and carry fingers 20 which are slidingly and pivotally held in guideways by having pivot studs 23 projecting from opposite sides into slots 24 in the side walls 21 of the arms 18. Triggers 27, pivotedly supported on eccentric bushes 31 by studs 23 and tensioned by springs 28 so that their inner ends at 29 make binding engagement with bottom walls 22 of arms 18, are provided for locking the fingers in the coil confining position. These triggers 27 are exposed at the outer sides of fingers 20 so that they can be readily released thus permitting the fingers to be slid out and turned to their axial position shown in dotted lines. Other embodiments show means for positively locking the fingers in the radial or axial position and also an arrangement in which the arms are radially adjustable in slots in a back plate attached to the hub 16 instead of on spokes 17.
