Abstract
Net-like polyquaternary ammonium compounds are prepared by reacting aliphatic dihalides with aliphatic tertiary tri- and higher polyamines. The reaction is effected at 50 to 140 DEG C. in the absence or presence of a solvent such as butyl alcohol, ethylene glycol or diethylene glycol. Examples are given of the preparation of polymers from N, N1, N11-pentamethyl-diethylenetriamine and b b 1-dichlorodiethyl ether, and from glycerol dichlorohydrin and N, N1, N11-pentamethyldiethylenetriamine. Other polyamines specified are N, N1, N11, N111-hexamethyl-triethylenetetramine, and N, N1, N11-pentamethyldipropylenetriamine, and other suitable aliphatic dihalides are 1, 2-dichloro- or dibromoethane, 1, 3-dichloropropane, 1, 4-dichlorobutane, 1, 5-dichloropentane, 1, 6-dichlorohexane, 1, 4-dibromopentane, 2, 3-dichlorobutane, 1-chloro-2-bromoethane, ethyleneglycol-di-b -chloroethyl ether, tetraethyleneglycol dichloride and g g 1-dichloropropyl ether.ALSO:Polyquaternary ammonium compounds are prepared by reacting aliphatic dihalides with aliphatic tertiary di- and higher polyamines. The reaction is effected at 50 to 140 DEG C. in the absence or presence of a solvent such as butyl alcohol, ethylene glycol or diethylene glycol. Examples are given of the preparation of polyquaternary ammonium compounds from N, N1, N11-pentamethyl-diethylenetriamine and b b 1-dichlorodiethyl ether, and from glycerol dichlorohydrin and N, N1, N11-pentamethyl-diethylenetriamine. Other polyamines specified are N, N1-tetramethyl-hexamethylene-diamine, N, N1-tetramethyl-triglycoldiamine, N, N1, N11, N111-hexamethyl-triethylenetetramine and N, N1, N11-pentamethyl dipropylene-triamine, and other suitable aliphatic dihalides are 1, 2-dichloro or dibromoethane, 1, 3-dichloropropane, 1, 4-dichlorobutane, 1, 5-dichloropentane, 1, 6-dichlorohexane, 1, 4-dibromopentane, 2, 3-dichlorobutane, 1-chloro-2-bromoethane, ethyleneglycol-di-b -chloroethyl ether, tetraethyleneglycol dichloride and g g 1-dichloropropyl ether.ALSO:The fastness of substantive dyeings is improved by treating the dyeings with water-soluble copper compounds and polyquaternary ammonium compounds obtained by reacting aliphatic dihalides with aliphatic tertiary di- and polyamines (see Group IV(b)). In Examples, (1) substantive dyeings are treated with a soluble copper compound and the product obtained by reacting b b \sv-dichlorodiethyl ether with N, N\sv, N"-pentamethyl diethylenetriamine and (3) cotton or viscose fabric dyed with Polyphenyl Black FF is treated in a solution containing the product of (1) and copper acetate-the copper acetate being applied in the same or a separate bath.
