Abstract

A liquid-dispensing container particularly for use with pharmaceutical preparations has a film of silica deposited on at least its internal surfaces to improve its draining properties. The silica film is preferably applied in the form of a dilute aqueous suspension of polymerized silicic acid which may contain as little as 0.016 per cent of silica. The containers are preferably inverted over small nozzles and sprayed with the dilute silica suspension and may then be dried to deposit the silica film. The containers are preferably glass but may be of other materials such as ceramic and appropriate metals. The coating may also be applied by immersion and the drying may be by heat at atmospheric or reduced pressure.
