Class 80 (3) [Also in Group VIII] A device for imparting a variable vibratory movement suitable for paper making machinery comprises a continuous driving shaft 1 with a crank pin 2 which engages in a block 3 which is adapted to slide in a slot 4 of a boss 5. The boss 5 is rotatably supported in a rectangular sheath 12 which in turn is adapted to slide vertically in an outer cage 14. Cage 14 is guided for horizontal movement in a housing 16 and is connected to rods 17 and 18 to either of which the member to be vibrated is coupled. The boss member 5 has a second slot 6 at right angles to the slot 4 which is engaged by a T-head 7 of a spindle 8 which can be rotatably adjusted by a worm and wheel gear 10, 9 to adjust the angular position of the T-head 7. In the position shown the boss member 5 is guided by the T-head 7 to reciprocate in a horizontal direction which movement is transmitted to the sheath 12 and outer cage 14. The vertical component of the crank 2 is accommodated by the block 3 sliding vertically in the slot 4 of the boss 5. If the T-head 7 is rotated through 90 degrees so that it lies vertically, the boss 5 reciprocates freely in a vertical direction which is allowed for by the sheath 12 moving in the outer cage 14. The horizontal component of crank 2 is taken up by the block 3 sliding in the now horizontal slot 4 of boss 5 and no movement is transmitted to the cage 14 in this direction. In any intermediate angular position of the T-head 7 a corresponding reduced amount of horizontal reciprocating movement is transmitted.
