Abstract

702,102. Drafting mechanism. CASABLANCAS HIGH DRAFT CO., Ltd. Dec. 12, 1952 [Jan. 30, 1952], No. 2546/52. Class 120(2) A drafting mechanism of the kind in which a number of drafting systems, each composed of consecutive pairs of rollers, are arranged side by side, the top rollers of adjoining systems being carried by an arm pivoted at the rear of the mechanism and incorporating a weighting saddle assembly which engages intermediate necks between the said top rollers, has the' saddle assembly comprising two separate saddles, one for weighting the front top rollers and the other for weighting one or more of the remaining top rollers of consecutive drafting roller pairs in adjoining systems, and spring means arranged to apply the weighting pressure to one said saddle whilst the reaction of the same spring means is arranged to apply the weighting pressure to the other said saddle. As snown, the carrying arm comprises side plates 1 and a cover portion 2 and the saddle assembly consists of front portion 8 with a rearwardly extending lever portion 10 and which carries and weights the front roller pairs 5a, and, a rear portion 9 which carries and weights, the middle and rear roller pairs 6a and 7a. The weighting is achieved by two coil springs 16 arranged between the front saddle 8 and one end of a lever 14, pivoted on a pin 15, the other end of lever 14 being in contact with a roller 13 carried by the rear saddle 9.
