Abstract
702,033. Bearings. FRÍSSEL, W. Feb. 19, 1949 [Oct. 1, 1948], No. 4598/49. Class 12(1) A bearing between two relatively rotatable members a, c is formed by the cylindrical surface of one member, and multiple sliding surfaces b on the other member, the surfaces b being of different curvature from the cylindrical surface so as to form load bearing wedges of lubricant and being so proportioned that at the point of minimum clearance h between the sliding surfaces the gap is 0.002 mm., the ratio between the gap at this point and that h<SP>1</SP> at 30 degrees angular displacement before and after this point is 1:25, and the difference between the radii R, r of the relatively movable surfaces is from five to ten times of 0.1 to 0.2 per cent of the shaft diameter. In the embodiment of Fig. 2 (not shown), the multiple sliding surfaces are alternatively on the inner member and the outer member has a plain cylindrical surface. The bearing may be formed of cast-iron, steel, sintered iron, glass or porcelain and may be lubricated by acids or lyes. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also an end thrust shaft bearing, and square and round sectioned relatively longitudinally moving members provided with bearing surfaces of the invention. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
