Abstract

1,273,648. Tube mills. F. L. SMIDTH & CO AS. 28 Oct., 1970, No. 51273/70. Heading B2A. [Also in Division F2] A rotary drum 1, Fig. 1, has at one end an axial trunnion 2 supported in a sliding contact bearing 4 .. 6. The surfaces of contact of the trunnion and bearing are part spherical. A further trunnion 3 is supported by a bearing 7 .. 10 which has a part cylindrical supporting surface 9. Lubricant is supplied via pipes 11, 12 and coolant water via spaces 13, 14. In a modification the lower parts 4, 7 of the bearing are each divided into two parts, so that the upper spherical surface portions (23) (25) of the lower parts 4, 7 are the same, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown). In further embodiments the lower most supporting member 5 (10) is flanged, or the member 4 (34) is flanged to provide a track for the member 4, Figs. 6, 7 (not shown). In a further modification a lower part 38, Fig. 8, of a movable bearing has a part cylindrical supporting surface 39, teeth 40, 41 forming a rack are provided on the base 10 at each side of the part 38. This part has teeth 42 which mesh with teeth 40, 41 to ensure perfect rolling movement. The arrangement of flanges and teeth may be combined.
