Abstract

701,407. Attachments for ladders. WHITMORE, G. C. WOLRYCHE-. Aug. 8, 1952 [Aug. 11, 1951], No. 18947/51. Class 20 (2) A ladder attachment which in use is gripped by the legs of a user to have both hands free comprises a rod 12 of wood or tubular metal secured to the ladder so as to be spaced from and substantially parallel to the plane of the ladder. The rod 12 may be secured to the ladder sides or, as shown, to the rungs which are engaged by a notch 17 and brackets 14, 15 on the inwardly-bent lower end of the rod 12 and by a screwoperated clamping device 20 at its upper end which serves to draw the rod 12 upwardly and to press the hooked portion 16 of the bracket 15 tightly against the undersurface of the adjacent rung. Instead of being screw operated the clamping device 20 may be operated by a quick action cam. According to the Provisional Specification each end of the rod has a pair of struts of metal strip which are secured to the ladder sides by screws. Alternatively the upper end of the rod may have inwardly projecting stays with hook-shaped ends which engage a ladder rung, the lower end having a T-piece, the head of which engages the ladder sides. As a further alternative the rod is connected by struts to a frame adapted to slide in grooves in the ladder sides, the frame carrying a pair of pivoted hooks to engage a rung.
