Class 142(iv) [Also in Group XXXIV] When the swift is at rest, it is braked by shoes c applied to a brake drum d onthe shaft of the swift, the braking force being provided by a spring i acting through levers e, f. During warping, the brake is held off by an electromagnet g. For the beaming operation, the braking force of the spring is augmented by drawing together the levers e, f by means of a threaded shaft j engaging a nut k on the lever e, the shaft being turned by a hand wheel (not shown).
