Abstract

Vitamin B12 solutions are purified by passing an aqueous solution through a column containing at least one basic ion-exchange resin previously alkali-treated and water-washed, recovering the effluent solution, and removing the water therefrom. As basic ion-exchange resins there may be used those possessing guanidino groups, amino groups or quaternary ammonium groups. The resin column is regenerated for re-use by treatment with an alkaline wash or alternatively with an acid wash, a water wash and an alkaline wash. Vitamin B12 crystals are obtained by treating the effluent solution with acetone and crystalline Vitamin B12 seed.
