Abstract
699,199. Electromagnetic relays ; contacts. TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L. M. ERICSSON. April 30, 1951 [May 5, 1950 ; March 20, 1951], No. 10086/51. Class 38 (v) [Also in Group V] Contact spring sets for relays are produced by inserting the contact springs before assembly in a moulding tool which moulds an insulating envelope 10 round each contact spring. The contact springs can then be piled directly on each other and secured together by screws 23. The moulding tool has three pegs adapted to form the three holes 25, 26 in each envelope, and the corresponding holes 15, 16 in each contact spring 11, are slightly larger so that they are coated on the inside with the moulding material. Four pins on each side of the moulding tool also engage the two sides of the spring 11 to prevent it bending during the moulding operation, these pins producing holes 24 in the envelope. The moulding tool also produces protuberances 27 and recesses 28 which interengage when the pile-up is assembled. The moulding compound may be a polystyrene plastic. The contact springs 11 are themselves produced by punching spaces from a band 110, Fig. 4, fed past a machine. A number of thern may be left temporarily connected by parts 114 and in this condition be inserted in the moulding tool where each receives its insulating envelope 115. The parts 114 and other connections at the top are then cut away. A thin layer of compound may then join adjacent envelopes. Several such groups of springs may then be assembled on top of each other and the unnecessarily insulation later removed. After assembly, the envelopes may be sprayed with benzol or other solvent to join them together or pasting means may be applied to the surfaces before they are pressed together. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 586,286 and 586,308.
