Abstract
632,750. Making electric contacts. FIRST INDUSTRIAL CORPORATION. Aug. 19, 1947, No. 23021. Convention date, Sept. 12, 1946. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Jointing by stamping; caulking.-A switch contact, comprising an insert 11 of silver or like material, is held in a recess 19 in a brass strip 9 by mechanical interengagement of the edges thereof. The strip 9 is fed in steps and a hole 13 is punched and is subsequently widened and shallowed to form the recess 19. The inserts 11, which are initially dished, are fed by the strip 12, from which they have previously been punched, into the recesses and are then flattened therein so as to engage the side of the recess. Simultaneously, the edge 32 of the recess is displaced over the edge of the insert, Fig. 7a, which is thus secured therein. The completed contact is then drilled at 33 for mounting and is stamped out by the tool 37.
