Abstract

698,546. Seats. POWLING, W. T., and POWLING, W. T. L. June 11, 1952 [March 11, 1951], No. 22292/50. Class 52(ii) A stick seat of the kind in which the seat member and the legs fold up into parallel relation with the stick in the inoperative position comprises a stick member to which the legs and the arms carrying the seat are pivoted and a slidable member linked to the said legs and arms such that movement of the slidable member relatively to the stick folds and unfolds the legs and seat, arms. As shown, the stick member 11 has pivoted thereto three legs 15 and three seat-carrying arms 14, and the slidable member 17 is connected to the legs 15 by pivoted links 18 and to the seat-carrying arms 14 by hooks 22. The seat-carrying arms 14 are provided with a canvas &c. seat 16 which, at the centre, is also connected to the slidable member 17 by a rivet 19. A handle 20 may be provided and the slidable member 17 may carry a resiliently mounted spike 21. Movement of the slidable member 17 relatively to the stick member 11 in one direction causes the legs and seat arms to fold while movement in the other direction causes them to unfold.
