Abstract

698,501. Veterinary instruments. JOHNSON, G. Oct. 26, 1951 [Nov. 24, 1950], No. 28747/50. Class 81 (ii). A veterinary surgical instrument of crossed pivoted jaw type, for the internal incision of obstructed teats in cows, is provided with jaws 8 in the form of narrow elongated blades each having an outer cutting edge 8a and an inner blunt edge each cutting edge 8a being overlapped by the blunt edge of the other blade when the blades are closed upon each other the blades being tapered towards their outer ends. The jaws 8 each having a handle 4 are pivoted about a hinge pin 5, the handles 4 being urged apart by a spring 6. On pressing the handles 4 towards one another the jaws 8 are separated with their cutting edges 8a outermost. An adjustable screw 10 mounted in one handle enables the opening movement of the blades and consequent depth of cut to be regulated.
