Abstract

698,140. Manually-actuated valves. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. July 4, 1952 [July 10, 1951], No. 16335/51. Class 135 A drain valve for a tank comprises a spring- loaded closure member 3 housed in a support 1 arranged within the tank and secured to the bottom 2 thereof, and the member 3 is provided with a ring 4 of flexible sealing material which engages a seating surface formed, e.g. countersunk, in the inside surface of the tank wall and surrounding the drain hole 2a. The support I is cylindrical and is provided with lugs 1a by which it is bolted to the tank, and the liquid has access to the inside of the support through the apertures left between the lugs. When the support is removed from the tank, the valve is retained in the support by a circlip 6. To open the valve, a rod-like member, which may be screwed into the valve at 3b, is pushed up through the drain hole 2a.
