Abstract
A core oil comprises a major proportion of drying oil, a hydrocarbon polymer or resin that retains its strength at 350 to 600 DEG F but disintegrates at 1200 to 3600 DEG F, and a viscous mineral oil. The drying oil may comprise linseed or soya bean oil, and the resinous material may be obtained by clay filtering of cracked gasoline. Fish oil, wood rosin or esterified tall oil may be added. Soaps of lead, manganese and cobalt may also be added to accelerate polymerization of the drying oil. The mineral oil should have a viscosity at 210 DEG F of between 100-500 S.U.S., preferably about 200, and may be obtained (A) from crude naphthenic oil by treatment with propane and acid, distilling and dewaxing, (B) by extracting paraffinic lubricating oil with phenol, or (C) by extracting medium viscosity lubricating oil of naphthenic type with phenol. Particular examples of proportions are given.
