Abstract

Road surfaces, floorings and tennis courts are constructed from a composition comprising a filler or aggregate of hard non-water soluble granular material and a binder comprising an oil or spirit soluble synthetic resin combined with a drying or semi-drying oil or with an oily substance containing predominantly a drying or semi-drying oil. Suitable fillers include sand, gravel, flint, sandstone, glass, glass fritters, carborundum or quartz, and suitable binders include phenol- or cresolaldehyde or phthalic acid-glycerol resins mixed with oils such as linseed stand oil, tung oil, soya bean stand oil or sunflower stand oil, with or without diluents such as turpentine, white spirit, methylated spirit, acetone or coal-tar hydrocarbons. Driers such as oxides, hydroxides, resinate, naphthalate, or linoleates of lead, manganese, vanadium, titanium, zinc or cobalt may be added to the composition.
