Class 20(ii) [Also in Group XXVIII] A tubular strut for interconnecting stanchions or as shown mine roof supporting arches 18, Fig. 1, is provided with an axially projecting loop 14 at one end and with longitudinally disposed through slots 17 at the other end, the loop 14 of one strut being adapted to be passed through a hole 19 in the web of the arch 18 to extend into the slotted end portion of a like strut so that a wedge or cotter 21, Fig. 2, may be passed through the aligned slots and loop to clamp the ends of the struts against the arch 18. Each strut 10 is provided with square centrally apertured end plates 12 adapted to prevent rotation of the struts by engaging the flanges 22 of the arch 18. For securing the loop 14 of an end strut to the last of a series of arches, the cotter 21 is inserted in the loop only whilst the slotted end of an end strut is secured by means of a fitting comprising a square washer. or plate 24, Fig. 4 (not-shown), to which a loop member 14 is welded, this fitting being used exactly as if it were the end of a tubular strut.
