Abstract
839,678. Struts for mine arches. LONGLEYS (BARNSLEY) Ltd. Nov. 18, 1958 [June 3, 1958], No. 17623/58. Class 20(2) [Also in Group XXII] A strut 1 for mine arches comprises at one end a bent rod 7 adapted to be passed through a clearance hole 18 in the mine arch web 19 and engaged by a clearance hole 4 in the flat end of the adjacent strut 1, the hole 4 being so spaced from the end of this strut that this end bears on one side of the web 19 while shoulders 8 of the first strut bear on the other side. The end 14 of the rod 7 may be bent over as indicated in broken line, to secure it and may be notched at 15 to facilitate the bending. A short length of tube with a bent rod 7 is used in the first arch of a series for the connection of the first complete strut. The bent rod 7 of the strut for the last arch of a series, after being passed through the arch web is engaged with a clearance hole in a transverse angle iron or is secured by a cam 26, Fig. 8, forming part of a stirrup 28 adapted to be forced down.
