Abstract

697,437. Supply systems for electrostatic precipitators. COLLECTRON (PTY), Ltd. Dec. 11, 1951 [Dec. 21, 1950], No. 29017/51. Drawings to Specification. Class 38 (iv). A high voltage supply for an electrostatic dust precipitator is obtained by rectifying a high-frequency voltage, say of above 10 kilocycles per second, generated by thermionic valve oscillator which may be powered by batteries or by rectified mains alternating current. The oscillator may be of the " ringing choke " type, or of the feed-back type producing a continuous wave. In one arrangement a pair of valves excite, in push-pull, an oscillator circuit, the output voltage of which is stepped up by a transformer and applied to a voltagedoubling rectifier circuit feeding the plates of the precipitator. Some of precipitator plates may be supplied from an intermediate voltage point of the rectifier. A relay, responsive to current or voltage conditions of the valves, controls indicator lamps for showing the operating conditions obtaining and also inserts a current limiting resistor in the valve circuit under fault conditions. The screens and anodes of the valves may be supplied from separate sources, which may be provided with means for voltage stabilization.
