Abstract
697,238. Vices. STEEL NUT & J. HAMPTON, Ltd. Sept. 7, 1951 [Sept. 23, 1950], No. 23362/50. Class 61 (ii). In a quick adjustment releasable screw vice having the screw spindle 16 mounted in two eccentrics 14, 15 connected by a flat bar 22 and disengaged from the half nut 11 by a backward rotation of the vice screw, a spring ball 20 or plunger in a radial bore in the eccentric 15 engages one of a series of dimples 16d formed on the unthreaded end part of the screw causing rotation of the two eccentrics and lifting of the screw spindle: forward rotation of the screw spindle carries the eccentrics round with it until the screw engages the half nut. The rear eccentric 14 comprises a disc or washer provided with an inclined slot 14c in which the reduced rear end of the bar 22 is located. The front end of the bar bears on a flat 15d on the eccentric 15 and is pressed thereto by contact of the edges of the bar with the periphery of the aperture in which the eccentric is located. The half nut 11 is supported in a recess in the base or foundation block 10a and has a shank 11a which depends through a hole 10d in which it is retained by a ring 12 or a nut.
