Abstract

Class 66 [Also in Group XXIX] A container for a liquid or pasty substance comprises a reservoir of resilient dilatable material such as rubber in which the substance may be stored under pressure due to the dilation of the walls and from which it is expelled by the re-contraction of the walls when the mouth of the reservoir is uncovered together with a control valve which normally maintains the reservoir mouth closed. In one embodiment a rubber reservoir a is loosely held inside a casing f having an enlarged top portion b which comprises one part of the outlet valve. A cap c having a central aperture through which the neck of the reservoir slightly projects is free to rotate on the part b but is urged by two straight parallel springs d (e.g. of piano wire) into a position in which the springs d squash and seal the reservoir neck. Rotation of the cap c as by finger pressure on the portion c<SP>1</SP> containing the ends of the springs allows the substance to exude. In an alternative form of valve (Fig. 6) the reservoir is attached to an outlet tube g having an orifice k which may be' closed from inside by a screw or spring-loaded plunger h covered by a leak-proof rubber cap j. In this arrangement withdrawal of the plunger by means of handle i releases the container contents. The reservoir may be provided with a constriction a<SP>2</SP> to prevent too rapid discharge of the substance and may be refilled by forcing in a fresh charge of substance under pressure with the valve held open.
