Abstract
A turbine blade consists of a compound material formed of a high melting point hard material, that is, a material consisting of one or more carbides, borides or silicides, and an alloy resistant to scale formation, the proportion of the hard material increasing towards the tip. In one example the hard material is titanium carbide and the alloy is 20 per cent nickel-chromium. Other examples are titanium carbide and cobalt-chromium-molybdenum alloy having 30 per cent chromium and 6 per cent molybdenum; titanium carbide and 20 per cent nickel chromium, the tip portion in this example comprising titanium carbide, chromium carbide, titanium boride or zirconium boride, no alloy being present. Other materials referred to are vanadium carbide, chromium carbide, tungsten carbide, molybdenum carbide, zirconium carbide.ALSO:A turbine blade consists of a compound material formed of a high melting point hard material, that is, a material consisting of one or more carbides, borides, or silicides, and an alloy resistant to scale formation, the proportion of the hard material increasing towards the tip.
