Abstract
731,456. Turbine and compressor blades. ROLLS-ROYCE, Ltd. Oct. 16, 1963 [Nov. 20, 1952], No. 29411/52. Class 110 (3). A rotor blade element for an axial-flow compressor or turbine, for example of a gas turbine engine, comprises a root portion 10 from which extends a pair of adjacent vane portions 13, the root portion having a bore 11 therethrough which, when the blade element is mounted on a rotor disc or drum, extends axially. The vane portions are disposed circumferentially on either side of the bore. The bore is adapted to receive a pin, preferably a pivot pin, by which the blade element is mounted on the rotor. The bore may be lined with a ductile material, either in the form of a bush, or by means of a metal plating operation, or by applying the lining material to the wall of the bore in the form of a powder or as a suspension in a lubricating grease. The lining material may be molybdenum disulphide. The blade may be made by a sintering process, for example from titanium carbide. A part of the wall of the bore between the ends thereof may be cut away as indicated at 12.
