Abstract
An aqueous liver extract with medicinal properties is prepared by mixing fresh, frozen ground liver with water to form a mash, agitating the mash with ether, centrifuging the whole to produce stratification one of the strata of which is a clear reddish aqueous solution, collecting this aqueous solution and heating it at a relatively low temperature until the reddish colour is eliminated and then recovering a clear amber filtrate. Preferably the livers of gestating animals, e.g. cows or pigs, are used. The heating step may be carried out at a temperature not exceeding 90 DEG C. The clear, amber filtrate may be phenolized and refiltered.
