Class 142(iii) In an automatic bobbin changing loom, the weft extending from the selvedge to the exhausted pirn is cut near the shuttle eye and clamped both by mechanical and by suction means, the mechanical means being released only on the next bobbin change, and the weft end being partly drawn into the suction device either when cut at the selvedge or when released by the mechanical means and being completely drawn into the suction device when released by both holding means. The weft end of a new bobbin is manually engaged with an anchorage device and is tensioned by a suction device which collects the new cut weft end after cutting at the selvedge. When, a weft feeler indicates that weft replenishment is necessary, a shaft 21 is rocked and an arm 22 thereon lifts a drop lever 24 to a position where it is struck by an abutment 25 on the slay to operate the transfer hammer 27. The shaft 21 also carries a second lever 21a which, when the shaft is rocked, swings a lever 29 whose upper end moves a plate-like member 15 carrying scissor-grippers 13 towards the shuttle eye. The member 15 moves in guides inclined, in a horizontal plane, towards the warp. A projection 13c on the scissor-grippers engages a member 32 during the movement towards the shuttle and opens the jaws 13a, 13 b. An abutment 33 on the slay strikes a projection 13d on the scissor-grippers and closes the jaws to cut and hold the weft end. The cut weft end is also held by a suction nozzle 14 which holds the end when cut by a temple cutter 35, or when released by scissor-grippers, .until the end has been released by both holding means when it is completely drawn into the suction device. The weft end from a new bobbin is manually engaged with a spring 36 and, when the bobbin moves down to the transferring position, the weft is guided by a guide 39 to a suction nozzle 38 which withdraws the end after cutting at the selvedge.
