Abstract
248,010. Cohen. M. A., (Assignee of Bantle, K.). Feb. 23, 1925, [Convention date]. Shuttles, changing bobbins in, automatically.- The bobbin transfer is controlled by a weft feeler device acting when the bobbin is substantially exhausted, and also by the weft-fork mechanism acting on breakage of weft. It is stated, however, that in an alternative arrangement the weft fork mechanism may be caused to stop the loom. A warp protector or shuttle feeler is used to prevent bobbin transfer in case the shuttle is not correctly positioned, and a scissors device on the shuttle feeler cuts and clamps the weft end from the old bobbin when bobbin transfer occurs. Weft feeler arrangements. - The feeler device comprises two pins 3, 4, Fig. 3, of different lengths contacting with the shuttle wall and with the bobbin respectively. When the bobbin is substantially exhausted, a lever 7 is turned about its pivot by the pin 4 before it is moved back by a guide piece 6, so that when the lever 7 is moved back by the part 6 it engages and operates a flap 5 and operates lever mechanism 8, 14, Figs. 3 and 5, whereby a " rod " 13 is moved into the path of the weft hammer 12 and a shaft 14 controlling the bobbis transfer is turned. When the thread breaks, the weft fork " rod " 10 is operated and also causes the shaft 15 to be turned. Transfer mechanism; shuttle feeler devices. When bobbin transfer is indicated, a slotted " organ " or lever 31, Figs. 7, 11 and 12, is turned about its pivot 21 and by acting on a pin 29 moves a link 24 pivoted to an insertion lever 23 into the path of a lay dagger 26, whereby the lever 23 is operated and a hammer 27 thereon inserts a fresh bobbin from the magazine M into the shuttle. The magazine is provided with a bobbin-retaining spring 25. The lever 31 is provided with arms 32, 33, which engage the shuttle if it is wrongly positioned, whereby the lever is turned back and the link 24 is moved out of the path of the lay dagger so that no bobbin transfer occurs. Weft, cutting.-When the movement of the lever 31 and its arms 32, 33 is not interfered with by a wrongly positioned shuttle, a " rod " 38 on the lay engages an abutment 37 on a lever 35 pivoted between the arms 32, 33, whereby the lever 35 is turned. The weft end from the old bobbin, which has been cut by the temple cutter, is again cut by the scissors device formed by the cutting edges 36 on the lever 35 and fixed arm 33, whilst the weft is clamped at the points a between the lever 35 and the fixed arms 32, and consequently is prevented from entering the fabric.
