Abstract

695,632. Transformers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. March 30, 1950 [April 8, 1949], No. 8003/50. Class 38 (ii). A method of making a magnetic core 1 for stationary induction apparatus comprises stacking a plurality of different length strips of magnetic material one above the other, each strip having square cut ends and a length calculated to equal the peripheral dimension it will have in the completed core, so bending the stack into a substantially rectangular loop that the two ends of the stack contact each other in a diagonally extending stepped core joint at a corner of the loop, subjecting the loop to an annealing process, and securing the loop ends in their contiguous relationship. The core may be of grain orientated steel, and may comprise a single loop, or two loops 3, 4 as shown, adjacent limbs forming a centre winding 5.
