Abstract

695,230. Removable bodies for rail vehicles. BOCK, F. March 8, 1951 [April 17, 1950], No. 5654/51. Class 103 (iv). [Also in Groups XXX and XXXIII] A floatable load container is connected to a railway vehicle in such a manner that horizontal movement of the container is prevented when in transit and vertical movement permitted when the vehicle is run under water and the container becomes waterborne. The container 1, Fig. 1, is provided with apertured plates 20, 21 at the ends into which take tapered pins 18, 19 on the vehicle 3. The container is divided by two bulkheads 4 and the ends 5 are tapered. The upper part 6, Fig. 3, of the side walls may be inclined to facilitate discharge of the load through the open top 7 when the container is tilted. The container may be raised from the vehicle and tilted by engaging chains suspended from cranes with toothed wheels 15 on the ends of the container. The container may be closed by a cover 9, Fig. 6, which rests on L-irons mounted on the walls of the container and is secured by latches 11.
