Abstract

2-Sulphanilamidoquinoxaline is prepared by heating a mixture of 2-haloquinoxaline, sulphanilamide and an acid-binding agent, particularly an alkali or alkaline earth carbonate, bicarbonate or hydroxide. The temperature may be between 120 DEG and 180 DEG C. In an example, 2-chloroquinoxaline, sulphanilamide and potassium carbonate are heated together to 160-165 DEG C. for five hours, cooled, diluted with water, acidified to pH9 to separate unchanged sulphanilamide, and then acidified and cooled to 0-5 DEG C. to precipitate the 2-sulphanilamidoquinoxaline.
