Abstract

694,393. Paper and like bags. DICKINSON &, CO., Ltd., J. June 27, 1952 [July 3, 1951], No. 15744/51. Class 94(ii) In a method of making a flat or gussetted bag transverse stripes of adhesive 3, 3a, are applied to the inner surface of the web 1 so that when the tube is formed the internal walls of the bag tube are sealed across the entire width by the stripe 3 and some of the internally applied adhesive 3a is exposed in the cut away portion 10 whereby the first bottom end fold is sealed and secured. Alternatively a single wider stripe may take the place of the stripes 3, 3a. The first bottom end fold is made by bringing the exposed part of the adhesive stripe 3a, Fig. 2, into contact with the bag wall where it is secured, Fig. 4. Alternatively the openings 10 are made larger so that the first bottom end fold may be formed by transversely folding the scalloped bottom end portion upon itself about a line 15, Fig. 14, and the adhesive 3a may be on either side of the fold line 15. A stripe of adhesive 12, Fig. 4, is then applied to the bag length and the bottom end again folded and secured to the wall of the bag by the adhesive 12. Alternatively the stripe 12 may be applied before the first bottom end fold is made, or only one fold made and the stripe 12 omitted, in which case the fold line is arranged so that both stripes 3, 3a are folded over. Specifications 676,047 and 691,943, [Group XXVIII], are referred to.
