Abstract

929,954. Valve bags and sacks. REED MEDWAY SACKS Ltd. Dec. 21, 1961 [Sept. 22, 1960], No. 32630/60. Class 94(2). A sleeve or tube forming a valve for a bag or sack has an entrance portion lined with bitumen bonded paper and an inner portion of more flexible and lightweight paper. In the arrangement shown in section in Fig. 4 a rectangular sheet 7 of bitumen bonded union kraft paper is folded at 9, parallel to one side, and a rectangular sheet 8 of lightweight kraft paper is inserted in the fold. The compound sheet thus formed is then creased as indicated at 10 in Fig. 5, so that it may be laid on the usual diamond fold forming the bottom of a bag, and folded in with the side flaps to form the valve with the flexible portion 8 towards the inside of the bag. Alternatively the composite sheet of Figs. 4 and 5 can be formed into a tube before it is inserted in the bag. The bag preferably comprises several stepped plies, at least one of which is preferably of bitumen bonded kraft paper. The valve is secured in place by a moisture resistant adhesive.
