694,304. Vehicle couplings. ALLEN & SONS (TIPTON), Ltd., W. G., and COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS), Ltd. May 1, 1950, [Feb. 3, 1949; July 1, 1949; Oct. 12, 1949]. Nos. 2949/49; 17510/49 and 26165/49. Class 103 (v). A buffer-coupling for mine cars comprises a pair of buffing members 2 of which at least one is provided with a pivoted coupling arm 11 swingable in a vertical plane and having a head 13 adapted to engage a seating behind an entry gap 7 in the other buffing member and couple the members in such a manner that, in the engaged position, the members can turn relatively about the axis of the coupling arm thus permitting successive tippling of a train of mine cars. Each coupling head is connected by a vertical pivot 3 to the draw-gear 4 beneath a mine car body 1. The coupling arms 11 are mounted on horizontal pivots 12 which are rotatable by means of an operating handle 25 on the end of the respective mine car through an intermediary crank 20 and link 21, the latter including a spring means 30. Locking members 14 mounted on horizontal pivots 15, project across the entry gaps 7 and retain the arms 11 in the coupled position against accidental disengagement.
