Abstract
693,523. Coating webs. AMERICAN TOBACCO CO. March 8, 1951 [March 10, 1950], No. 5682/51. Class 140. Paste to be applied in a narrow strip to a travelling paper web, e.g. in a cigarette making machine, is fed from a container 12 through an orifice 16 to a feed screw 4 rotating in a fixed bushing 3, and on reaching the other end of the feed strew passes through a radial hole 18 to a central bore 19 communicating with a nozzle 20 mounted on the feed screw which applies it to the paper web. The threads of the feed screw increase in depth from the inlet end to the outlet. At the opening 16 the bore of the bushing 3 is eccentric which eliminates air bubbles from the paste. Leakage of paste from the feed chamber is prevented by end seals 7. The device is rotatably mounted on a vertical post 36 so that it may be swung from an operative position in which a gear 23 fixed to the shaft of the feed screw 4 meshes with a driven pinion 25, to an inoperative position. The device is vertically adjustable on the post 36 to vary the position of the applied strip of paste. ,Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 594,024.
