693,199. Illuminating apparatus for photographic printing. AGFA CAMERA WERK MUNCHEN. June 5, 1951 [Aug. 12, 1950], No. 13347/51. Classes 98 (i) and 98 (ii). Illuminating apparatus for copying coloured originals by contact or projection printing comprises one or more colour filters 5 which can be interposed to a desired extent in the beam from an illuminating source such as an electric lamp 2 at a point in or close to the plane of an image 4 of the source produced by a condenser 3 and an opal screen 8 in the path of the beam which has passed through the filters on which an image of the entrance pupil of the condenser or of an adjacent plane is formed, as by means of a converging lens 7. A stop 6 may be provided adjacent the filters which in the case of a clear lamp having a linear filament are arranged for movement in directions parallel to the axis of the filament image. The negative 9 to be copied is placed on the opal screen 8 and copied either by contact printing or by projecting an image of it by means of a lens 11 on to a light-sensitive sheet 12. To apply the illuminating apparatus to a conventional enlarger, the lamp above the enlarger condenser is replaced by an opal disc or partsphere on to which the image of the entrance pupil of the condenser 3 formed by the lens 7 is reflected by a mirror at 45 degrees to the axes of both the enlarging and illuminating systems.
