693,136. Testing physical qualities of threads. ZELLWEGER AKT.-GES. March 14, 1951 [April 14, 1950], No. 6197/51. Class 106 (ii). An apparatus for feeding successive lengths of thread 5 to a thread-testing machine comprises an endless chain 1 on which is mounted a feed clamp 4, the clamp 4 being adapted to close at the point B of its travel on a thread extending between a bobbin 6 and a thread clamp 8 whereafter the clamp 8 opens and the feed clamp 4 continues its journey in a manner feeding the thread firstly into the clamp 8 and then into a clamp 9 whereafter the feed clamp 4 stops at the point A and the clamps 8 and 9 then close on the thread. A test, such as a tensile test, made by applying an upward force to the clamp 8, is then made on the thread between the clamps 8 and 9. After the test the feed clamp 4 repeats the above operation. The chain 1 passes over and is driven by sprockets 2. According to a modification the clamp 9 may be omitted, the feed clamp 4 acting as the clamp 9. The pull for the tensile test is then exerted by clamp 8 or clamp 4.
