Abstract

The invention comprises organo-mercury compounds of the general formula <FORM:0692953/IV (b)/1> where n is an integer less than 5 and R represents hydrogen or the allyl group, and a process for preparing the above compounds by reacting a compound of the general formula <FORM:0692953/IV (b)/2> where R and n have the significance indicated above, with an equimolar proportion of mercuric salt in a polar solvent medium, e.g. water or alcohol. Mercuric acetate is given as an example of a mercuric salt. In the examples compounds of the above general formula are prepared, wherein R represents allyl and hydrogen and n is 2 and 4, using mercuric acetate as the mercuric salt. The Specification also states that the first products in the examples are of the general formula HOOC(CH2)nCONRCH2CHOH CH2HgOCOCH3, where R has the significance indicated above and n is 2 or 4, which are unstable and eliminate acetic acid to form the desired compounds prepared in the examples. The said desired compounds dissolve in aqueous caustic soda to form compounds of the general formula NaOOC(CH2)nCONRCH2CHOHCH2Hg OH, where R has the significance indicated above and n is 2 or 4. Sodium salt of succinic acid N-monoallyl amide is prepared by treating N-allyl-succinimide with sodium hydroxide. Adipic acid N-monoallyl amide is prepared by reacting adipic acid methyl mono-ester chloride with allyl amine and hydrolysing the resulting adipic acid methyl mono-ester N-allyl amide with methanolic caustic soda. Succinic acid N-(diallyl)-monoamide is prepared by a similar method. Adipic acid N-(diallyl)-monoamide is prepared by saponifying the corresponding mono-methyl ester. N-allyl-succinimide is prepared by heating succinic anhydride and allyl amine.
